Augustana University’s Center for Western Studies Announces 41st Annual Artists of the Plains Show

Sponsored by the Center for Western Studies, Augustana University is excited to announce that the 41st Annual Artists of the Plains Show will take place on Friday, Oct. 28, through Sunday, Oct. 30, at the Hilton Garden Inn (201 E. 8th Street) in downtown Sioux Falls.

More than 30 artists from across the region, including Augustana students, will have their artwork on display and for sale. This show provides an opportunity for the public to meet one-on-one with area artists, including both well-established and up-and-coming artists.

Artists invited to the 2022 show work in many different media — oil, acrylic, watercolor, 2D/3D mixed media, sculpture, jewelry, pottery and photography. The Center for Western Studies offers cash awards to first and second place winners in the following categories: 2-Dimensional Best of Show and 3-Dimensional Best of Show.

The show is free and open to the public on Friday, from 5-9 p.m., with a reception and awards program at 7:30 p.m., and on Saturday, from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. On Sunday, the show is open from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

About the Artists of the Plains Show

As a signature program of the Center for Western Studies, this show and sale is designed to educate the public about the cultural importance and variety of regional art and artists. The largest and longest running show of its kind in the region, Artists of the Plains is an annual highlight of the center’s art program and educational exhibits — one of several programming areas supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities. The event is a gift to the artists and collectors of the Northern Plains.
