Reminder:
The Canistota Maintenance Department will be smoke testing the city sewer lines, Monday 04/11/22. The South Dakota Association of Rural Water Systems will assist with the test, which checks for Ground Water Infiltration into the sewer lines. Infiltration can overload the system during heavy rains.
The smoke is non-toxic and will not cause health problems or damage property.
If your sewer is working correctly, the smoke should not enter your home. It should go out the via your roof's sewer vent. You may receive smoke if you have a faulty or blocked ventilation pipe or dry floor drain.
As a precaution adding water to drains and toilets will help prevent smoke from entering your home or business.
If you are at home and see smoke coming in, please inform the testing crew. Darin @605-530-11593 or Brandon @605-310-0195
Do Not Call The Fire Department.
The testing is done in sections of town. It is not possible to let property owners know the exact time for their area. We appreciate your cooperation during this test.
