Sioux Falls – SD – The Minnehaha County Commissioners approved the FY2023 Provisional
Budget during a regular meeting this morning. The Provisional FY2023 budget year runs from
January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023. Ten new positions are in the Provisional Budget,
including a paralegal within the Public Defender, one legal office assistant within the State’s
Attorney, one sergeant and two correctional officers in the Jail, one sergeant in the Sheriff’s Office,
three juvenile correctional officers in the Juvenile Detention Center, and one tax and license
technician within the Treasurer’s Office. Additional opt-out funding of $2,628,000 is utilized for
FY23.
The Provisional FY23 budget totals $113,843,508. A further breakdown includes $79,801,704 in
General Funds, $17,426,123 in Highway Funds, $6,156,243 in Building Funds, and $4,322,679 in
debt service.
The budget includes a 10% health insurance premium increase, and a salary matrix adjustment of
5.0%. Total property taxes levied would be $65,583,292, an increase of 8.4% or $5,109,552 from
FY22 taxes levied.
The County Commission continues to closely monitor budget trends and will continue to adjust
as needed before the final FY23 budget is considered in September of this year.
