The Aberdeen University/Civic Symphony invites you to a concert inspired by colors of the rainbow at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at Northern State University.
The concert, which will be held in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Jewett Theater, feature soloists from the Aberdeen area, including Northern faculty members and a side-by-side selection with Aberdeen Central High School Orchestra. A Pre-Concert Conversation is scheduled for 6:45-7:15 p.m. in JFAC Berggren Recital Hall.
Dr. Christopher Stanichar, Director of the AUCS, will lead the orchestra. Some of the featured works on the program include a new composition by William Wieland, faculty composer at NSU. AUCS Concertmaster, Everaldo Martinez, will perform Lalo’s “Symphonie espagnole.”
Audrey Miller, Northern faculty member and clarinetist, will perform Stanichar’s “Pink Ribbon for Susan”—a piece composed for a friend in memory of her struggle with breast cancer. Anne Waltner, pianist for the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra and Sioux City Symphony Orchestra, will conclude the concert with Gershwin’s popular “Rhapsody in Blue.”
Live artists from the NSU Art Department will join the performers on stage to paint works inspired by the music the AUCS plays.
“This spectacular first concert of the season will be a colorful night not to miss!” Stanichar said.
Celebrating its 103rd season, AUCS is the oldest continuous orchestra in South Dakota, attracting musicians from Minnesota, North Dakota, Iowa and the surrounding area. Stanichar, Assistant Professor of Music at NSU, is the 17th conductor of the orchestra.
