After a national request for proposals, the City of Sioux Falls has issued an intent to award contracts to two design teams to create master plans for Frank Olson Park, Kuehn Park, McKennan Park, and a newly proposed southside aquatic facility. The following design teams have been selected:

  • Stockwell Engineers, based in Sioux Falls, SD, to master plan Kuehn Park, McKennan Park, and a proposed southside aquatic facility.
  • Williams Architects, based in Itasca, IL, to master plan for Frank Olson Park.
A selection committee comprised of representatives from various City departments, the Park Board, and the City Council assessed each proposal based on criteria such as the firm's relevant project experience, qualifications of the proposed team, and their understanding and approach to the projects. The chosen firms demonstrated expertise for designing municipal recreation and aquatic facilities.

“We are thrilled about taking the next step in our efforts to replace our aging aquatic facilities with new state-of-the-art facilities for our community,” Don Kearney, Director of Parks and Recreation said. “These are important long-term investments in our quality of life and are a key element in making Sioux Falls an attractive place to live, work, and play. These improvements will last for another 50 years, and I look forward to working with our residents on what’s possible with these projects.”

Stockwell Engineers and Williams Architects will conduct a series of community engagement sessions as a part of the design process. Residents are encouraged to attend these sessions to share their ideas and preferences. Details about the engagement sessions will be announced through City of Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation social media channels, website, and direct invitations sent to adjacent neighborhoods.
