U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson from South Dakota has cast his vote in favor of the Crucial Communism Teaching Act, aimed at educating high school students about the dangers associated with communism. Johnson expressed concern over a growing trend among American youth showing support for communism and dictatorship.

"An increasing number of American youth are favoring communism and dictatorship," stated Johnson. He emphasized that these forms of government stand in opposition to America's foundational principles, values, and freedoms. "These oppressive types of government are how our adversaries like China, Russia, and North Korea operate. We must educate our students on the dangerous and deadly impacts of these societies to ensure our kids and grandkids can live in a free and prosperous America."

The legislation proposes making educational materials available through the independent Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation. These resources aim to inform high school students about the threats posed by communism and totalitarian regimes, which contradict the principles of freedom and democracy upon which the United States was founded.

Communism has been linked to over 100 million deaths worldwide and continues to infringe on the human rights of more than 1.5 billion people globally. The issue is further complicated by the presence of Confucius Classrooms in over 500 K-12 schools across the United States, where it is alleged that propaganda from the Chinese Communist Party is disseminated under an educational guise.

Statistics reveal that 28 percent of Generation Z view communism favorably compared to just six percent among Boomers and three percent within the Silent Generation. Additionally, 18 percent believe communism might be a fairer system than capitalism, while 19 percent consider dictatorship as an ideal political system—figures significantly higher than those seen in older generations.

Johnson's move aligns with sentiments echoed by former President Ronald Reagan: “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction... And if you and I don't do this, then you and I may well spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it once was like in America when men were free.”
