A woman from Rosebud, South Dakota, has been sentenced for assaulting a federal officer. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell. U.S. District Judge Eric C. Shulte handed down the sentence on August 11, 2025.
Jamie Leader Charge, 32, received a sentence of time served in custody through August 23, 2025, which amounts to about four months in federal prison. She will also serve three years of supervised release and must pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Leader Charge was indicted by a federal grand jury in December 2024 and pleaded guilty on May 12, 2025.
According to authorities, the conviction is related to an incident that happened on November 5, 2024, in St. Francis, South Dakota, located within the Rosebud Indian Reservation. On that day, an officer with the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services responded to a call reporting that Leader Charge was causing a disturbance at a residence in St. Francis. After learning there was an active tribal arrest warrant for her, the officer arrested Leader Charge. During the arrest process, she resisted and kicked the officer.
The case was investigated by Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Service and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Albertson.
Leader Charge was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
