A Rapid City man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for offenses related to child pornography. U.S. District Judge Camela C. Theeler handed down the sentence to Jerry Lamont, 61, on August 29, 2025. In addition to his prison term, Lamont will serve five years of supervised release and must pay $35,630 in restitution as well as $200 in special assessments to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

Lamont was indicted by a federal grand jury in January 2025 and pleaded guilty on May 14, 2025. According to court documents, between January and December 2024, he uploaded numerous images and videos of child pornography into his Dropbox cloud storage account. Investigators found that Lamont possessed a total of twelve electronic devices containing illegal material. The content included images depicting children as young as infants being sexually abused, computer-generated imagery, bestiality, and bondage.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children identified forty-one children among the victims whose images were found in Lamont’s possession. Restitution was ordered both for several victims and the South Dakota ICAC Digital Investigations Fund.

“This defendant was in possession of 13,137 images of child sexual abuse material,” said U.S. Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell. “Due to the relentless and collaborative work of local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, the defendant was located, apprehended, and swiftly prosecuted for his exploitative conduct. The defendant is now out of our community as he begins his 15 year sentence in federal prison.”

The case is part of Project Safe Childhood—a national initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006—aimed at combating child sexual exploitation through coordinated efforts by federal, state, and local agencies to prosecute offenders and identify victims (https://www.justice.gov/psc).

The investigation involved the South Dakota Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Heather Knox prosecuted the case.

Lamont was immediately remanded into custody following sentencing.
