U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson from South Dakota has extended an invitation to President Trump and Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum to host a fireworks celebration at Mount Rushmore for this year's Independence Day. The last such event occurred in 2020 during Trump's first term as president.
Johnson expressed enthusiasm for the idea, stating, "Celebrating our nation’s independence at the foot of Mount Rushmore is quintessentially American." He emphasized that whether through fireworks, drones, lasers, or other means, such displays enhance the patriotic spirit of the occasion. "I hope President Trump and Secretary Burgum can join the festivities at our historic national landmark," he added.
Johnson has shown consistent support for fireworks celebrations at Mount Rushmore in previous years and has participated in past Independence Day events held at the monument.
