U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) has unveiled the 2025 Congressional Art Competition, inviting South Dakota high school students to participate. The competition seeks to feature the artwork of students from South Dakota in the U.S. Capitol. The South Dakota Arts Council (SDAC) is handling entries for Rep. Johnson's office.

Eligible participants are South Dakota students in grades 9-12. The winning entry will be showcased in the Cannon Tunnel of the United States Capitol for a year, while the second-place entry will be displayed in Johnson's Washington, D.C. office for the same duration.

Rep. Johnson expressed his enthusiasm for the program: "There are so many talented and creative young artists in South Dakota, and through this program, we get the chance to celebrate that." He encouraged students to "share your artwork with us and help us showcase South Dakota in the halls of Congress."

Entries must be submitted digitally. Students are to send a high-resolution JPEG image via email, along with a completed PDF of the student release form to rebecca.cruse@state.sd.us. The deadline for submissions is 11:59 PM CT on Tuesday, April 15. Winners will be announced by Thursday, April 17, and must send their artwork and release forms to the SDAC office. The SDAC will frame the artwork and forward it to Washington, D.C.

Participants should review guidelines and specifications before submitting their artwork and download necessary forms from https://artscouncil.sd.gov/CAC/index.aspx.

The Congressional Art Competition is organized by the Congressional Institute and members of the U.S. House of Representatives. It aims to highlight and foster artistic talent both nationally and within congressional districts. The South Dakota Arts Council collaborates with Congressman Johnson's office for this initiative.

The SDAC is part of the South Dakota Department of Tourism and is dedicated to supporting the arts in communities across South Dakota, funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and the state government.
