U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson of South Dakota has announced the passage of a conservative reconciliation package, referred to as the “One Big, Beautiful Bill.” The legislation aims to prevent what is described as the largest tax hike in American history while delivering $1.6 trillion in savings, marking the largest spending reduction in a generation. The bill also focuses on securing U.S. borders and implementing policies to adjust federal programs.

Johnson stated, “This bill is a strong conservative work product, and one that is long overdue. It delivers a historic spending reduction and roots out abuse of federal programs. These changes are a meaningful attempt to turn our fiscal house in the right direction.”

The package includes several key components:

- Border security measures such as completing 701 miles of primary walls, 900 miles of river barriers, and hiring additional Border Patrol and ICE personnel.

- Avoidance of a significant tax increase for most Americans and businesses by extending current tax rates.

- Implementation of policies aimed at reducing federal program expenditures by $1.6 trillion over ten years.

Specific provisions related to border security include funding for "Remain in Mexico" enforcement and facilitating at least one million annual removals of illegal aliens.

In terms of taxation, without extending current tax rates, Johnson highlighted potential impacts such as an average taxpayer in South Dakota facing a 25% tax hike if the Trump Tax Cuts expire.

The bill also seeks to remove 1.4 million illegal immigrants from Medicaid and eliminate SNAP eligibility for illegal immigrants. Additionally, it enforces work requirements for able-bodied adults without dependents who receive SNAP or Medicaid benefits.

A detailed thread outlining 32 conservative wins included in the bill is available online.
